The family-owned creamery, specializing in handcrafted ice cream, is set to open on Monday, June 7.
Why it matters: Once open, Golden Cow will be the only stand-alone ice cream shop in Uptown. Soon those summer outings to Romare Bearden Park can end with a cone of Golden Cow’s salted oreo.
Zoom out: The future of Uptown was once uncertain amid the pandemic. But sights of cranes and sounds of construction are painting a different picture of growth and resurgence post-pandemic.
- Golden Cow co-owner Alex Hannah says he’s very confident in Uptown’s ability to make a comeback. “There’s a lot more going on Uptown, even during the pandemic, than you might think,” he tells me.

What to expect: Golden Cow’s Uptown location will have all the classic flavors like creamy vanilla, rich chocolate and fresh strawberry plus eight rotating flavors that will change frequently.
- Protein and Belgium Liege waffles will now be served at the Uptown location on weekdays.
Location/hours: Golden Cow Creamery is located at 601 South Tryon on the corner of Stonewall and Tryon in the new Ally Charlotte Center development near the under-construction JINYA Ramen Bar. Golden Cow also has locations in South End and SouthPark. It’s open Monday through Wednesday from 10am to 9pm, Thursday and Friday from 10am to 10pm, Saturday from noon to 10 and Sunday from noon to 9pm.
