One of the most iconic, recognizable homes along Selwyn Avenue hit the market last week. It’s listed for $4,815,000.

“This home sits on a prominent corner in Myers Park and is truly a family compound,” listing agent Aubrey Grier said. “I have had numerous buyers and agents reach out simply to say they have always loved and admired this home.”

The exact address is 2538 Selwyn Ave. At 5,285 square feet, it has 6 beds and 7 baths.

Architecture and design: This iconic Charlotte home, built in 1917, is best known for its stately presence on Selwyn Avenue, with its classic Southern architecture and sprawling lawn.

The main house has been completely renovated with tons of patterns — seen through wall coverings and the stair runner — a modern kitchen, and other fresh finishes. There’s a blend of old and new; the original formal spaces were redesigned with more contemporary flare.

  • The largest renovation was done 2006-2008, designed by Don Duffy Architecture and built by Advanced Renovations (now Alair Homes). The pool, done by B&B Pools, was added in 2017.

Owner’s suite: The main bedroom includes a fireplace, sitting area, separate jewelry closet, walk-in closet, dressing room, large bathroom, and its own washer and dryer.

Outdoor living: The property is just over an acre and has multiple porches and verandas, lush landscaping, a pool and spa and a basketball/sports court.

  • There’s also a guest house out back with its own kitchen.

Here’s a look around.

The grandeur of this home is felt throughout, from the sprawling lawn to this spacious entrance.

I love how this formal living room has retained its function but was made new with bright ceilings, soft rounded furniture, and tons of seating.

This painted floor in the butler’s pantry is one of my favorite details in the home.

This house is over 5,000 square feet, which is certainly larger, but I love how functional each of the spaces feel.

I love the blend of old and new here with the classic curved railing and bold navy animal print runner.

The main bedroom is definitely an owner’s retreat with a dressing room, spa-like bath, and a sitting area by the fireplace.

This veranda overlooks the yard and is so cozy.

The backyard and outdoor living spaces are some of the most impressive spots on the property.
