The Men of Midwood(ish) calendar is available for purchase for $20, and proceeds will help support 13 local bars, represented by the bartender models.

“It’s a little bit of nostalgia, and a lot of wanting to help financially,” said  Geneiva McNeale, one of the fundraiser’s organizers.

Why it matters: The food and drink industry was hit hard this year. Bars have been closed or operating at reduced capacity for most of 2020. These local watering holes are a big part of our city’s culture, especially in fast-changing Plaza Midwood that’s trying to hold onto its quirkiness as developers creep in. [Go deeper: With an influx of new development, does Plaza Midwood risk losing its identity?]

Who’s participating:

  • Elizabeth Billiards
  • Midwood Country Club
  • Thirsty Beaver Saloon
  • Skylark Social Club
  • Snug Harbor
  • Petra’s
  • Hattie’s Tap and Tavern
  • Thomas Street Tavern
  • Tommy’s Pub
  • Abari Game Bar
  • The Workman’s Friend
  • The Lafayette
  • Smokey Joe’s Cafe

To buy: Calendars are $20 and you can order online here, now through the end of January. Shipping is $5 or you can buy a calendar in person from any of the open participating bars. You can also buy them at Green with Envy, Park Road Books, the Culture Shop, or Common Market starting Tuesday, December 22.
