Network Services Manager
Overview:
The Network & Voice Services Manager is responsible for the implementation and operation of technology infrastructure deployed within the university. This position is operationally responsible for ensuring the availability, integrity, and security for all IT networking infrastructure and for the day-to-day management of the Network & Voice Services Team.
Responsibilities:
• Supervise the Network & Voice Services team
• Develop and build a career plan for team members
• Manage Network & Voice Services projects from project planning to implementation and operation
• Manage day-to-day departmental activities and facilitate the resolution of technical problems
• Manage day-to-day workload and priorities of new and existing tasks, requests, and projects against available resources
• Research and recommend potential departmental and technology improvements to senior management
• Work closely with management to design and implement short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure network capacity meets existing and future requirements
• Test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports; develop strategies for maintaining network infrastructure
• Improve operational intelligence by developing accurate dashboards with tools; create relevant metrics and reports for output to various levels of the organization; present findings on a set frequency to upper management
• Oversee deployment, integration, and initial configuration of all new network solutions, and of any enhancements to existing network solutions in accordance with standard best operating procedures
• Oversee implementation of enterprise solutions focused in the areas of network (LAN, WAN, Wireless, VoIP)
• Oversee all aspects of the University’s phone system, including installation,
maintenance and troubleshooting
• Maintain working knowledge of all current network technologies and ensure the university continues to be a leader in technology
Qualifications:
Required
• Bachelor’s degree (prefer Computer Science/Information Systems)
• 3-5 years of hands on technical experience managing and configuring enterprise-wide LANs, WANs, WLANs, VPNs, etc
• 2-3 years of successful leadership of a networking team with the ability to manage complex information systems and technical personnel
• Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in design, implementation, and support of layered network models at the Access, Distribution/Aggregation, Core locations
• Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in the design, implementation, and support of layer 3 protocols including OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, etc
• Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in networking-related protocols and tools, such as DNS, DHCP, NTP, RADIUS, IPAM, TACACS, etc
• Competence in advanced networking technologies, virtualization technologies, and solutions including MPLS, virtual routing, and forwarding, virtual device contexts, multicast routing, policy-based routing, QoS, traffic-shaping, load balancing, VPN tunnels, etc
• Experience with multiple network vendor solutions including Palo Alto, Citrix, Aruba & Infoblox
• Experience with Cisco solutions including LAN, WAN, data center, security and voice
• Experience in network engineering strategy, architecture, design, and implementation as applied to complex computing systems including routing and switching technologies, firewalls, load balancers, etc
• Cisco certification
Preferred
• Demonstrated success with complete life cycle inventory management including inventory tracking through procurement, storage, deployment, operations, decommissioning, and disposal
• Demonstrated knowledge of cable plant standards and operations to include planning, installation, maintenance, and management
• Experience with cloud technologies
• Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives
