Back in March, many of us traded in our cubicles and swiveling chairs for a seat at the kitchen table or the recliner in the living room.

At the time, it felt temporary – we’ll just work from home for a couple of weeks and then head back into the office once this is all over.

Haha, very funny.

Fast forward to today and many of us are settling in for a long period of working from home. And now, a lot of us have students who need space for virtual learning, too. Suddenly, the kitchen stool just isn’t cutting it for 8-hour workdays. “People have gotten used to working at something that isn’t ergonomic,” says Whitney Hahn, Design Consultant at California Closets.

If it’s time to upgrade to a home office that will help you be happy and productive even when you’re missing your company HQ, California Closets can help whether you’ve got three feet of space or an entire room to convert. And they can even make room for the kiddos, too (if you’re up for sharing).

We asked Whitney about some of her favorite home office designs, as well as what you can expect while designing an office with California Closets. Spoiler: the process sounds super fun.

How does the process work?

During the pandemic, California Closets has introduced virtual consultations where you’ll Zoom with a design consultant so they can see your space. The process is super collaborative – the designer will share their screen as they’re working in their AutoCAD systems so you can collaborate together in real-time to bring your vision to life.

How long does it take?

“We’re practicing immediacy,” says Whitney. If you need a home office ASAP, California Closets can schedule an appointment within a few days and systems can be installed within 4-6 weeks.

What kind of solutions does California Closets offer for home offices?

California Closets can design anything from an entire room (think a home office with a wall bed that doubles as a guest bedroom) or a “touchpoint,” which is a small workspace designed for laptops.

They recently released a wall bed that has a desk on the front that can fold away when the bed is in use. They also offer height-adjustable sit-to-stand workstations, power solutions, cable management solutions, and fusion track wall systems. You can ask your design consultant for deets on all of their new home office accessories.

Right now, “people are working from home, but so are most of the kids,” says Whitney. California Closet’s customizable solutions are perfect when you’re designing for multiple people who are all doing different things.

Whether you have a specific vision in mind or have no idea what you want, a designer can help you create a space that’s functional and beautiful. Everything is customizable, from the layout to the wood finishes.
