The Exchange at 36th will be a convenience store you’ll want to hang out in, says owner Kevin Samuel.
Why it matters: Samuel hopes to fill a need in NoDa with the market by offering basic pantry staples, produce, plants, and other local goods.
What to expect: Food-wise, The Exchange will sell pre-packaged, grab-and-go options like salads and sandwiches supplied by Bistro La Bon. It’ll soon offer beer and wine, too.
Space: The 1,400-square-foot market and bar is Samuel’s first of two projects on 36th Street. Next door to the market is a 3,800-square-foot space that he plans to turn into a restaurant before the end of 2021.
- He doesn’t have additional details on the concept right now; his focus is on the market, given the current coronavirus climate.
Location: The Exchange is just a minute’s walk from the 36th Street light rail station. Its exact address is 451 36th St. in the former Behailu Academy space.
Timeline: The Exchange opens this Thursday, February 11. From then on, it’ll be open daily from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Owner, Kevin Samuel.
