When this lakefront estate hits the market on Friday, it’ll be the most expensive house on the market in the Charlotte area. The Mooresville home, dubbed “Grand Lac Chateau,” is asking $7,995,000.
The house, designed by JJ Barja of Elite Design Group and built by Augusta Homes, is inspired by the castles the owners fell in love with along the French countryside.
“It’s breath-taking, just incredible,” listing agent Josh Tucker of HM Properties says. “This is a landmark for the lake. It’s one of the biggest, nicest, most expensive houses on Lake Norman.”
Tucker says the current owners are moving to Los Angeles for work opportunities — one is in the music industry, the other can work remote.

Grand Lac Chateau was designed to imitate a French castle. With the turrets, stone exterior, and pitched roofline, I’d say mission accomplished.
At 11,595 square feet it has 6 bedrooms, 7 baths, and 2 powder rooms. The 8.5-acre property also features a 70,000-gallon pool with a 60-foot infinity edge and lake views.
Grand Lac Chateau blends the charm and grandeur you might expect from a European castle with the easy-breezy Southern lifestyle Lake Norman living brings.
To achieve the castle-like design, no detail was overlooked during the three-year building process from 2015 to 2018.
“There are so many details (in this house) that the average home just doesn’t have,” Tucker says. “Many houses have a movie theater, but not a custom movie theater that’s like having an iMAX in your house. Many houses have a pool, but not a 70,000-gallon pool.”
The foyer sets the tone of the home with it’s can’t-miss grandeur. It features a 60-foot turret that runs from the basement to the upper level; white oak hardwood floors with marble inlay; pre-cast concrete spiral stairs; and Venetian plaster custom paint.
Opulence oozes throughout. Take the custom kitchen: the blue range is like the home’s ever-important statement necklace. It’s a LaCornue Chateau Series Grand Palais 180 Range, which are made in France and start at $60,000. This one is lavender blue with copper and stainless finishes.
Other luxe touches throughout include 12-foot-plus ceilings, white oak flooring, 130 audio speakers, and fully automated lighting, shades, security, fans, audio systems, etc.
Here’s a look around Grand Lac Chateau.

I love a foyer moment. The curved staircase, white oak and marble patterned flooring, and height of the ceilings set the tone for the rest of the home: opulence.

The kitchen has a number of impressive features. Personally, I love the double island. The back island is your work station and the second island was made for guests to sit and graze on some charcuterie while you whip up something delicious.

This gorgeous French blue range was flown in from, well, France. This particular style starts at $60,000.

The owners’ suite is truly a dream with vaulted ceilings, a fireplace, and a wet bar (coffee or cocktails in bed?). The bathroom has dual vanities, heated floors, and a fireplace. The two-story closet is the real showpiece, though. It has its own washer and dryer, custom shelving/cabinetry, and a spiral staircase leading up to the second floor with additional chic storage.

The wine cellar holds 250 bottles. But that’s not even the impressive part. This cellar has its own security that keeps tabs on the room’s temperature. The owners get a notification every time it changes more than 6 degrees over/under the desired temp.

Work from home? Don’t mind if I do.

The basement has a spacious bar, another fireplace, a lounge and living area, and views of the backyard/pool area.

This “men’s lounge” has six TVs total. You can watch four different things on the right side panel shown here. The room leads into the show-car garage.

I’m not a big car girl, but this garage is fancy.

The pool has a built-in sunken fire pit, a 12-person spa, a tanning ledge, 4,500 square feet of decking, and a 60-foot lake view infinity edge.
