Overview:
Gardner-Webb University is seeking a Senior Web Developer. This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Web & Digital Communications. This person is a member of the Web Communications team and supports the strategic initiatives of Gardner-Webb University through managing and extending the functionality of gardner-webb.edu using WordPress. This individual will play a key role in backend and front-end development and will be responsible for maintaining themes and plugins. This individual must have a good understanding of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery, PHP, and MySQL. S/he will also manage the relationship with our external web hosting company and may collaborate with Technology Services on related projects.
This position will be located at Gardner-Webb University – Charlotte Campus (occasional travel to Boiling Springs Campus will be required.)
Responsibilities:
• Maintain security, framework, and plugin updates for gardner-webb.edu
• Own feature requests through inception, design feedback, implementation, and launch; look for ways to optimize performance
• Enforce branding and content standards in an effort to maintain the appearance and structure of the website
• Experience designing and developing responsive websites
• Familiarity with browser-based debugging tools
• Knowledge of RESTful APIs and formats (JSON, XML)
• Website quality assurance testing
• Integrate third-party applications, marketing pixels, scripts, etc. as necessary
• Keep current on trends and evolution in web development, accessibility, and web standards
• Offer insight and ideas on ways to improve and evolve the website
• Assists with optimizing landing pages and updating web code in order to improve website position
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university as well as six to eight years of related experience. Work in a non-profit or higher education setting is preferred but not required
• Familiarity with WordPress
• Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, PHP, MySQL, and ASP.net
• Knowledge of responsive design techniques and accessibility requirements
• Demonstrated competence in Adobe Creative Suite
• Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively
• Collaborative spirit and willingness to work with campus partners
• Familiarity with SEO best practices as well as web analytics tools and applications
• Experience with Qualtrics or similar online survey tool
• Ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and Gardner-Webb might benefit from their implementation
