Former Panthers quarterback Cam Newton’s three-bedroom condo in the exclusive Trust building Uptown is back on the market for $2.9 million.

About The Trust: Located at 139 South Tryon Street, the Uptown building has seven multi-million dollar condos. The latest unit on the market sold for $3.9 million in October, the highest-priced residential real estate deal in the history of Uptown.

The building doesn’t have frilly amenities, other than a private rooftop terrace, but its exclusivity, discreet entry, privacy, and location have attracted buyers like Michael Jordan.

Before it became The Trust building, the site was originally home to the Buford Hotel. The hotel was torn down and rebuilt in 1967 as The Home Federal Savings and Loan Building, a growing local mortgage company founded in 1883.

Each unit in the now-condo building was custom-built and some occupy an entire floor. Others take up two stories. In other words, these condos aren’t quaint.

Property records: According to Mecklenburg County’s property ownership records, the apartment is registered to Agape Property Management Group LLC. A quick Google search shows Agape is registered to Cecil Newton, Cam Newton’s father. This has been well documented before in the Axios Charlotte, and in other publications.

Cam vending machine: Then there’s also the Rookie of the Year vending machine in the apartment, which further hints at the past tenant.

The condo is 3,335 square feet with 3 bedrooms and 3.5 baths.

The property was on the market last May, listed at $3.2M, but was taken back off the market July 31. Since then, numerous updates have been made, including fresh paint, new light fixtures, and bathroom upgrades.

Shane McDevitt with The McDevitt Agency has the listing. The property can only be seen through scheduled private showings (aka no open houses for those of us who are nosy).

Here’s a look around.

The private terrace is a little more than 315 square feet and it has a hot tub.

Stylish updates have been made since the condo went on the market last year. I love the wallpaper and funky sink in this powder room.

The master suite is incredible — and not something you might expect to get out of a condo. The bedroom is huge, but the bathroom and closet really steal the show. The bathroom seems like something you’d find at a resort. The shower has two heads, and there’s a separate soaking tub. And the closet was custom-made.
