We are currently looking for an Ophthalmic Assistant who will be responsible to assist the physician by providing preliminary medical evaluation to include diagnostic evaluation for clinical patients as well as providing medical treatment and medical care services to patients by performing duties within the scope of the policy and procedures defined by CEENTA. This is a full-time non-exempt position and would travel between offices, as the physician, Dr. Allen, sees patients in our South Park, Blakeney, Steele Creek, and Statesville offices. • Gather essential medical information from the patient and enter information utilizing EHR platform.
• Provide clinical triage by responding quickly and performing needed tasks while properly documenting the patient encounter.
• Provide scribing services in an effective and productive manner.
• Preform preliminary ophthalmic work up including obtaining pressures and checking visual acuities., completing a slit lamp exam and checking visual acuities.
• Perform diagnostic tests if necessary including; Visual Field and OCT testing.
• Coordinate surgical services including verification of insurance coverage by providing necessary information to the insurance company to expedite the prequalification process when directed.
• Prepare exam rooms including the disposal of contaminated supplies and sterilize medical tools and equipment.
• Restock medical tools and equipment and arrange exam room instruments in addition set up lab trays necessary for a patient’s exam and procedures.
• Educate patients and/or caregivers with information on medical procedures, instruct on dietary issues, therapies and medications relevant to their specific health condition.
• Transmitting prescription refills as directed to pharmacies.

• Medical Knowledge: Intermediate understanding of Eye terminology and anatomy and best practices when triaging patient calls.
• Patient Facing Communication: Ability to effectively communicate expectation of therapy and services using terminology patients can easily understand in a friendly and positive way.

Education and/ or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates and License:
Valid and active certificate from JCAHPO as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician or as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant is a plus but is NOT required.
