Overview:
Under the direct supervision of the VP Finance/HR, the Senior Accountant will support accounting services including reconciling bank statements, revenue tracking, posting accounts receivable, invoicing, month end close and other related functions. This position supports the accounting function and will assist VP Finance/HR with maintaining accurate accounting information according to established fiscal policies and generally accepted accounting standards.

Responsibilities: 
• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger by following fiscal policies and standard accounting principles
• Analyze financial information and review for errors
• Maintain Revenue Tracking for donor designated restriction status and reporting requirements
• Develop increasing knowledge of BlackBaud accounting system to be able to make suggestions and changes to streamline processes
• Support the annual audit and other donor related audits
• Prepare bank reconciliation monthly
• Prepare Month end close and related journal entries
• Prepare internal financial statements
• Prepare NC sales tax requests and 1099’s
• Support the Finance Committee with explanations of the financial reports, observations of trends and special reports or projects as needed
• Other accounting duties and projects may be added as time permits

Qualifications:
• Understand and apply accounting principles to current transactions as well as design the best method to track and report of current funding streams, including federal, state, corporate, foundation and individual grants and donations.
• Communicate and develop positive strong working relationships with central office staff members
• Develop communication channels with other BlackBaud users and support staff
• Apply advanced Excel techniques to assist with reporting, importing and exporting data to meet ever changing work processes
• Must be able to analyze financial reports and design new and project specific reports
• Considerable knowledge of accounting process and principles with emphasis on nonprofit and grant/fund accounting
• Ability to work independently to make sound judgments in a fast paced, growth environment
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel including Vlookups and pivot tables. Working knowledge of Outlook products and Google Drive
• Strong communication skills when working with board, vendors and staff members
• Ability to work in sync with accounting cycle deliverable schedule
• Knowledge of Blackbaud Financial Edge accounting software is a plus. Hands-on experience with nonprofit specific systems and requirements
• Prior supervisory experience is a plus
• Requires a high degree of attention to detail and strong problem solving skills

Education/Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required; Master’s in Accounting or Finance is preferred
• 5 years’ work experience in accounting role
