Veronét Vineyards & Winery, a new 70-acre vineyard with two bars and a 70-foot outdoor patio, is opening this month in Kings Mountain, just 30 miles from Charlotte. It’ll be open to the public on Friday, Sept. 27.

“This announcement is a culmination of years’ worth of hard work and vision, and we cannot wait to share our stunning property with the world,” Monique Sullivan, founder and managing partner of Veronét, said. “… We have worked hard to create a retreat where anyone can relax, take in beautiful views, and enjoy themselves through a range of offerings that will include food, beer, and non-wine beverage options as well.”

When Monique found the land several years ago, it was nothing but trees, and they’ve transformed it into a Sonoma-inspired wine oasis — it’s truly beautiful.

What to expect: They’ll have wine by the glass, flights and samples and charcuterie, cheese boards, small bites, coffee and tea. You can do guided and private tastings and vineyard tours, and leashed dogs and picnics are welcomed. You’ll have views  of Crowders Mountain, The Pinnacle and five acres of vines the whole afternoon (according to my Fitbit, I’m already relaxed just thinking about it).

Eventually they’ll have more in-depth tastings, special wine/food pairings and other events, and they’ll do private events and weddings.

The layout: The 6,300-square-foot main winery building has an open floor plan and huge glass doors that show off the views.  There are two bars, a stunning private tasting room with wall-to-wall bottles and a sprawling 70-foot outdoor patio.

They have several long tables and cocktail-style seating inside, and outside they have fire pits and tables, too. Monique also suggests packing a blanket for picnics if that fits your vibe.

The wine: Right now they have eight selections, including Chambourcin 2017, North Coast Red Wine 2016, Cabernet Sauvignon 2016, Orange Muscat 2018, Viognier 2017, Sauvignon Blanc 2018, Rose of Pinot Noir 2018 and Brut Cuvée Sparkling.

At the moment, these wines are sourced from Sonoma California but made in the style Veronét will eventually be able to produce in-house. The vines are only two years old right now, so Monique is hoping for a fall 2022 harvest.

Prices: Wine by the glass is $8; wine flight with three small glasses is $12; guided tasting with souvenir glass is $15; wine tasting with four pours is $5; and bottles are $20-$32.

Location: The exact address is 1549 Ike Brooks Drive, Kings Mountain. It’s roughly a 45-minute drive from Charlotte.

Logistics: The drive is super easy, and I had perfect cell service the entire time (no weird GPS glitches). The driveway is an uphill gravel path, but I’m confident your car will be fine — my 2011 Nissan Versa handled it fine, just don’t get a car washed beforehand.

Hours: Noon to 6 p.m. on Friday and Sunday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
