Erin McDermott, owner and designer at Erin McDermott jewelry, just launched a $20 monthly subscription box to help create looks that take you from “mornings to margaritas.”
Erin has been making jewelry for 12 years. She started her business right out of college, initially selling her designs at craft shows and markets, and now she sells about 600 pieces of jewelry each week through her studio, online shop and Instagram.
“I’ve had this box idea for a long time,” Erin said. “I’m not reinventing the wheel here, it’s very similar to like a Stitch Fix.”
What it is: Every month you’ll get a box with four pieces of handmade or hand-selected jewelry and some other goodies wrapped in a thoughtfully designed box. You could get earrings, necklaces or bracelets, or any combination of those. Erin said she gets a lot of questions how to style jewelry, so with the box, everything in it can be worn together.
How it works: If you want to subscribe, you can go to Erin McDermott Jewelry, go under the “what’s new” tab and click “Monthly Subscription Box.” Once you get your box, you have about two weeks to decide what you want to keep. If you do want to keep something, or everything, you get a discount code (sent in an email) for you to use at checkout. If you don’t want to keep anything, a shipping label is already included in each box, so you can send it back.
What to expect in your box: You get four pieces of jewelry, a hand-written note from Erin, cute inspirational quote cards, a shipping label to send items back and a fun surprise gift (this month’s is a scarf).
Style of jewelry: Erin said she likes to create and curate jewelry that’s versatile, light weight and mostly neutral with occasional pops of color.
“I like pieces you can wear with anything, from a $10 Target T-shirt to an Anthropologie dress,” Erin said. “I call it ‘morning to margaritas.’ It’s stuff you can wear running errands, in your kids’ carpool line or cocktails with girlfriends. It’s all really transitional and easy.”
Exclusive designs: The four pieces are curated specifically for the subscription boxes, so the jewelry you get won’t be for sale in the studio or online, at least for a few months. If they do go on sale, you won’t get the same prices and quantities will be very limited.
Who should try it: “I’d say it’s good for people who want to take a little risk,” Erin said. “I love it when women say ‘I never wear dangly earrings’, and then they try it and tell me they haven’t taken them off.”
Pricing: The box is $20 and shipping both ways is already included. Pieces are in the $20-$60 range, with most costing around $28-$32.
