Uniquities owner Julie Jennings recently announced the high-end women’s clothing store will be coming to Atherton in South End.

Timing: They’re targeting a fall opening.

What it is: Uniquities is a women’s clothing store that carries anything from designer denim to jewelry. The flagship store is on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill, but there are also two in Raleigh and one in Birkdale Village in Huntersville. In my opinion, it’s comparable to Monkee’s in terms of helpfulness/friendliness of staff, price point and variety of cool-girl brands.

As for the South End store, according to a press release, it “will be an extension of the relaxed Southern hospitality Uniquities is known for and will feature a lounge area with spirited refreshments and expansive 10-foot tall windows facing South Boulevard.”

Brands they carry: Zimmermann, Baum und Pferdgarten, MOTHER, Loeffler Randall, Rag & Bone, Misa, Citizens of Humanity, Amanda Uprichard, AG, Rails, Bella Dahl, FRAME and more.

Background: Uniquities was founded by Julie Jennings in in 1992. The first store was in Chapel Hill. The boutique now has four North Carolina locations in Cameron Village Shopping Center and North Hills in Raleigh, Birkdale Village in Huntersville and their flagship store in Chapel Hill.

Why it matters: Atherton is already a huge retail destination, with names like Anthropologie, Warby Parker and Free People already open, but the addition of Uniquities brings it one step closer to the bigger picture for Atherton — a walkable urban retail center with restaurants, shops, and apartments in the heart of booming South End.
