Tupelo Honey, a popular Southern comfort food restaurant, plans to open its new Uptown location on Thursday.

It’ll offer limited, reservation-only seating through Open Table starting on Thursday. On Monday, March 16, it will switch to normal hours.

“We are thrilled to share our scratch-made Southern favorites with even more guests in the Queen City,” Tupelo Honey Senior Vice President of Marketing Christin Prince shared in a statement to the Agenda. They plan to hire 100 new employees for the restaurant which is located on the ground floor of Bank of America Plaza (101 S. Tryon St.) next to Sukoshi.

Hours: It’ll offer limited, reservation-only seating through Open Table starting on Thursday. Normal hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m on Friday; 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday; and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Brunch is open to 4 p.m. on weekends.

Design: The interior is stunning, dripping in hanging plants and Bohemian-inspired lighting. It also has a bar with seating on all sides, tons of regular tables, and a giant dog-friendly patio, with a greenery wall and glowing “Kiss My Grits” sign.

Menu: The menu features 7 shareable snacks, soups, salads, and a harvest bowl, fried chicken with 10 side options, and 10 sandwiches — all with the Southern flare you expect from Tupelo Honey. Items range from $6-$16. Here are some highlights:

  • Mac & Cheese Bites — crispy fried mac & cheese, milk gravy, ceole sofrito ($9)
  • Mountain Harvest Bowl — roasted sweet potatoes, baby carrots, red onion, herb sauce, arugula, kale, spiced pecans, white balsamic dressing, quinoa, scratch-made cauliflower rice ($11.50)
  • Sweet & Spicy Chicken Sandwich – grilled or fried chicken, siracha honey sauce, lettuce, pickles, tomato, mayonnaise, potato bun ($12.75)

Brunch: Brunch is served 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The menu includes all the important brunch staples, from eggs benedict and French toast to mimosas and Bloody Marys. Everything is priced $8-$23. Brunch highlights include:

  • Tupelo Honey Shrimp & Grits — shrimp, peperonata, scallions, stone-ground cheese grits, served with five-ingredient rustic bread, grilled lemon($18.75)
  • Pecan Pie French Toast — Brioche, chunks of pecan pie, blueberries, whipped cream, powdered sugar ($11.30)
  • Shoo Mercy Shrimp & Grits — “forever free” chorizo, sautéed spinach, blistered tomatoes, one friend egg ($22.50)
  • “Old Skool” Breakfast Bowl — two fried eggs, parmesan & rosemary potato cracklins, salsa, black-eyed peas, cheddar cheese, bacon and sausage crumbles, served over stone-ground cheese grits ($10.75)

Dog menu: Your pup can brunch on the sprawling patio, too. There’s even a special dog menu with five items priced $3-$5. My dog, Roy, would likely go for the Healthy Fella (chicken and sweet potato, $6) or Ruff Day Remedy (three scrambled eggs, $3).

South End: Developers recently bought the two-acre property just south of East Boulevard, formerly home to Tupelo Honey, which closed two weeks ago, for $21.5 million. A 23-story tower is planned. The new 385,000-square-foot tower will include 11,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space on its ground level.
