Charlotte restaurateurs Justin and Jamie Sprowles, and their dad “Spanky,” will be opening a new restaurant in NoDa called Room & Board where the former Revolution Ale House was. It should be open in January.
Justin said the property’s been vacant for about 18 months, and after weeks of cleanup, the vision for Room & Board is starting to shape up.
“You have your vision, and it’s hard to see at first,” Justin said. “But now it’s starting to look like something. We want to differentiate ourselves from what it has been — Revolution, Mellow Mushroom.”
The menu’s still in the rough draft stages, but you can expect something like Seoul Food where you pick from a list of meats and vegetables. There will be fried chicken, pulled pork, brisket and other meats.
“We’re going to use what we have experience with,” Justin said, “instead of try to dip our toes in a new pond.”
The name, and eventually the decor, is a nod to the building’s history – it was formerly a boarding house. Justin said you can also expect to see the name and boarding house theme creatively worked into the menu’s language and other aspects of the restaurant.
There will also be live “party” music, cool food and drink specials, trivia and other fun elements.
The restaurant, which is at 3228 N. Davidson St., is going to be a dinner and drink spot to start, with brunch on the weekends. The brothers, who also own Bradshaw Social House in Ballantyne, and had a hand in opening Caswell Station last year, are shooting for a mid-December opening date, with January being a more realistic soft opening.
