You already know the U.S. National Whitewater Center is one part of having the quintessential Charlotte summer, but more than one visit is required to make the most of the playground in our backyard.
With the earliest possible Memorial Day and latest possible Labor Day, this summer offered 15 weeks to make memories. There are still roughly two weeks left to max this season with five things to do at the USNWC before summer ends.
Send summer off in style with a trail race, cornhole tournament, live music and fireworks. If you like meeting lots of new people, spending a day soaking up the sun and getting competitive, this is the event for you.
(2) Mountain biking
Take advantage of cooler temperatures and turn up the heat on over 20 miles of trails. According to the USNWC, there are climbs and descents for riders of all levels. I’m more of a paved path girl myself, but they say you can hit these as a beginner.
(3) Zipline and Dine
Work up an appetite by hitting five zip-lines, crossing two roped bridges and rappelling out of the trees. In addition to dinner at the Ridge Retreat, your ticket comes with two full drinks (score).
(4) River Jam
If you haven’t made it out to a River Jam this summer, I’m concerned you’ve been living under a rock. Luckily for you, there are five more chances to jam by the river before summer ends (and even then shows extend through the end of September). Bring your dog, bring your friends, bring your mom (if she likes craft beer and sitting in the grass).
Sure, you could do a regular canopy tour, but why wouldn’t you plus it up. Travel through the trees at sunset and get all the artsy pictures to give your friends major FOMO. #DoItForTheInstagram
