Carolina Renaissance Festival

through November 18 | 16445 Poplar Tent Road, Huntersville | $12-$25 | Tickets

Why you should go: More than 1,000 artists and costumed characters come together in a completely immersive experience that sees Fairhaven come to life with an artisan marketplace, food (get the giant turkey leg) and performances scattered across a dozen stages. Performances are, for the most part, kid-friendly, but a few are marked “LC” for “loose cannon.” Don’t miss the jousting sessions or the live falconry demonstration.

Why you should go: When the sun goes down, everybody’s favorite local theme park is transformed into 400 acres of sheer terror crawling with 500+ costumed actors, jump scares, haunted attractions and shows. Activities this year include Deadman’s Landing, Dark Harvest, The Hollow, Slaughterhouse: The Final Cut and Urgent Scare.

South End Fall Craft Crawl

October 6 | South End | 2-8 p.m. | Free admission | Details

Why you should go: Hop on the trolley for a ride to some of the best beer spots in the neighborhood, including Suffolk Punch, Sycamore Brewing and Wooden Robot. 

Fall Festival

October 6-7 | U.S. National Whitewater Center | $6 to park, activities a la carte | Details

Why you should go: Say hello to the season with a number of activities, including cider sampling, the Whitewater Film Series, Build Your Own Boat Competition, yoga, Neptune’s Revenge, a new boatercross showdown and more.

4 Year Anniversary

October 6 | Sycamore Brewing | 12-10 p.m. | Free admission | Details

Why you should go: Celebrate the brewery’s birthday with two stages of live music, food trucks and lineup of their best beers.

Breakaway Music Festival

October 12-13 | AvidXchange Music Factory | $55+ | Details

Why you should go: This two-day festival features some of the hottest acts in today’s music scene, including Machine Gun Kelly, Wiz Khalifa, Hoodie Allen, 3LAU and more. See the full lineup here.

Harvest Festival

October 12-14 | Shelton Vineyards | Free admission | Details

Why you should go: Celebrate the harvest with a Friday night dinner, then spend Saturday and Sunday enjoying hayrides, music, tours and shopping local vendors.

25th Annual Apple Harvest Festival

October 20 | Windy Hill Orchard | 10 a.m.-6 p.m. | $10-$12 | Details

Why you should go: This festival, which sells out year after year, includes a hard cider bar, apple cider doughnuts, BBQ, kid-friendly activities like a hayride and bounce house and more.

South End Wine Festival

October 20 | 308 West Carson Boulevard | 1-6 p.m. | $10-$550 | Details

Why you should go: If unlimited tastings from 25 vineyards, plus live music and food trucks aren’t enough to get you out to this South End staple, maybe the fact that your tickets benefit Classroom Central will. Expect wines from South America, California, Spain, France and, of all places, Lidl, the German supermarket.

South End Wine Fest

8th Annual Brewer’s Ball

October 20 | Discovery Place Science | 7-11 p.m. | $75-$125 | Details

Why you should go: Join the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Charlotte Chapter for an upscale beer, wine and food tasting complete with silent and live auctions, live music, giveaways and more.

Rich & Bennett’s Halloween Bar Crawl

October 27 | throughout Uptown | 1-10 p.m. | $10-$25 | Details

Why you should go: Now in its 18th year, this themed bar crawl – from the guys behind the infamous St. Patrick’s Day Bar Crawl – has become the biggest in the Southeast. Tickets include admission to 20+ bars, drink specials, giveaways, a costume contest and a themed koozie.


October 27 | BB&T Ballpark | 2:30 p.m. | $10 | Details

Why you should go: This pumpkin carving contest features insanely talented local creatives carving over-the-top pumpkins to win bragging rights. Watch the carvers in action from 2:30-4 p.m., then stick around to see the winners at 4:40 p.m. Proceeds benefit Make-A-Wish of Central and Western NC.

Grave Diggers Ball 2018

October 27 | 514 North College Street | 6-11:30 p.m. | PRICE | Details

Why you should go: Expect a killer lineup, costume contest and $10,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs at this annual Halloween party.
