Once again, Charlotte is home to several dozen companies that rank among the nation’s fastest growing.
A total of 52 local companies made this year’s Inc. 5000 list, which ranks businesses based on revenue growth over a three-year period.
That’s up from 44 local companies that made the list last year.
The companies run the gamut from sexy tech startups like Passport Inc., Quimbee and Tech Talent South, to restaurant chains like the Famous Toastery.
Here are the top 5 Charlotte and Charlotte-area companies on the list.
#84 Pine Gate Renewables
Once again, a solar energy company tops the list of Charlotte companies that are growing the fastest. Pine Gate Renewables installs solar farms, primarily doing business in the Carolinas and Florida.
Pine Gate grew revenue a whopping 3,940% over the past three years, to $9.7 million.
A similar firm, POWER HOME SOLAR, topped the local Inc. 5000 list last year. That company primarily works with residential projects, however.
#312 Levvel
This technology consulting firm works with corporate big dogs like JP Morgan Chase and McDonald’s and has built sattelite offices all over the world.
They grew revenue 1,574% to $17.2 million

#324 Saprex
Building on the region’s textile expertise, this Gastonia company develops fibers, clothing and other materials that can withstand extreme conditions, like fire and chemical exposure.
Saprex’s revenue grew 1,518% to $4.6 million.
#389 Passport
Passport builds apps and other mobile infrastructure to manage parking and transit payments. Revenue grew 1,264% to $12.3 million.

Quimbee builds tools to help law students study for the bar exam. The company’s revenue grew 1,020% to $5.1 million.
