In just 3 years, Charlotte-based startup 2ULaundry has raised $2.9 million in capital, grown to a customer base of 1,700 customers and 75,000 pounds of laundry per month, participated in Techstars Atlanta and expanded to Atlanta.

The on-demand laundry and dry cleaning delivery service began as a class project at Wake Forest University and with its custom profile, text message scheduling, free pickup and delivery and single business day turnaround time, found its footing in Charlotte quickly.

In a surprising twist, the service doesn’t appeal just to families; the company says that a chunk of their customer base is living in apartments that come standard with in-unit washers and dryers.

“Most clients tend to be people that are working full time and don’t want to do more work when they get home. We see a lot of families, too, like people that just had their first baby and Mom and Dad are working full time. It takes the pressure off,” co-founder Dan Daquisto told the Agenda in 2015, just before the official launch. It still rings true.

Simple breakdown of pricing and products

With a solid success story under its belt, the company is looking to enhance their customer base and experience, and it comes in the form of a brick-and-mortar laundromat called The Laundry Room.

In partnership with Electrolux, the retail and commercial coin laundromat has transformed¬†a space formerly occupied by a McDonald’s on East Arrowood Road using many of the same elements familiar to 2ULaundry branding.


The space will include 111 machines (4 of which are huge, 135-pound Electrolux machines able to get clothes washed and dried in under an hour, the only ones of their kind in Charlotte), plus a soap machine, folding tables and an app to reserve machines and pay for services, which will range from $2.75-$17.

In addition, the space is equipped with free wifi, big screen televisions and a kids’ area, and will play host to food trucks – elements that lead 2ULaundry to call The Laundry Room “the first of its kind.”

“Opening our first brick-and-mortar location gives us the ability to further improve our cleaning processes and continue to deliver on the high quality, consistent service our customers love so much,” CEO Alex Smereczniak told the Agenda.

The Laundry Room is aiming for a July 14 grand opening.

To celebrate, they’ll offer free washing all weekend long.
