That video came from Spiracle Media, a video production and strategy firm that has doubled in size over the past two years.
Spiracle now employs 12 people in an office in South End. And revenue has continued to grow — up 48 percent year-over-year in 2017.
All that has led Baier to be named the finalist for our Small Businessperson of the Year award in the Media + Advertising category.
Get to know Tim Baier better and learn from his success with these five questions. Responses have been edited for space and clarity.
What’s the first hour of your day look like?
Our natural alarm clock (aka our 6-month-old daughter Charlotte) wakes my wife and me up about 6:45 a.m. each morning. Unfortunately, I check email before even getting out of bed… bad habit I know!
I try to make it to Lewis Fitness in Dilworth 2-3 times a week for a workout before going to the office. If there isn’t a workout, then I get to spend some quality time catching up with Charley before work. Someone said this to me the other day and it is so true: “The days are long, but the years are fast.” I can’t believe how much my daughter has grown up in such a short time and it motivates me to get in the office and keep building Spiracle.
What’s the most valuable business lesson you’ve learned?
Relationships are the key to all good businesses. My business partner Jarod Latch and I always focus on the friendships we’ve built with our partners, and that’s allowed us to be honest and transparent in everything we do. My wife always jokes that we can’t get through breakfast at Joe and Nosh without running into 3-4 of our clients and invariably there’s a hug and some time catching up. The relationships make it all worth it.
What’s a recent purchase of less than $100 that you love?
My Hello, Sailor hat. After a dinner out with some friends at the new spot in Cornelius (and maybe a few beverages), we all purchased hats. It has become my new favorite accessory.
