Why you should go: When the sun goes down, the park’s 400 acres transforms to crawl with 500+ costumed actors specializing in jump scares and plenty of haunted attractions and shows. Activities this year include Deadman’s Landing, Dark Harvest, The Hollow, Slaughterhouse: The Final Cut and Urgent Scare. 

For a kid-friendly experience, head to the daytime-only Great Pumpkin Fest, filled with pumpkin patches, tractor tours, character experiences and more.

Why you should go: Get in the spirit with a lineup of food trucks, breweries, live music, pet costume contests and games at Novel before trick-or-treating your way to Johnston YMCA for more kid-friendly celebrations and a lawn showing of Hotel Transylvania. 

Brewer’s Ball

October 20 | Discovery Place Science | 7-11 p.m. | $75-$125 | Tickets

Why you should go: Now in its 8th year, the Ball will take over Discovery Place Science with a dressed up beer festival, complete with wine and food tastings, for an evening of live music and both silent and live auctions with prizes like food and getaways up for grabs. Proceeds benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Charlotte Chapter.

Rich & Bennett’s Halloween Bar Crawl

October 27 | Uptown | 1-10 p.m. | $15-$25 | Tickets

Why you should go: Everybody’s favorite themed bar crawl (next to Rich & Bennett’s St. Patrick’s Day Bar Crawl, of course) is back for its 27th year and better than ever. Tickets to the biggest bar crawl in the Southeast include admission to 20+ bars, drink specials, giveaways, a costume contest and a themed koozie.

Why you should go: This family-friendly pumpkin carving contest features insanely talented local creatives carving over-the-top pumpkins to win bragging rights. Watch the carvers in action from 2:30-4 p.m., then vote on your favorite and stick around to see the winners at 4:40 p.m. Proceeds benefit Make-A-Wish of Central and Western NC.

Grave Diggers Ball featuring blackbear and Loud Luxury
