Construction is moving right along at Dilworth’s new urban market.

The People’s Market — an all-in-one deli, bakery, cafe and bottle shop — should be open by Halloween, according to owner Cory Duran.

The ambitious project takes over the sprawling space formerly occupied by 131 Main at the corner of East Boulevard and Scott Avenue. And it’s going to be gorgeous.

Here’s where it’s been and where it’s headed…

As a refresher, The People’s Market will be an all-day food and beverage hub and hangout for the Dilworth neighborhood.

They’ll be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with grab-and-go options for people on the run, craft beer and wine and a full coffee bar featuring locally roasted beans from Magnolia Coffee and Charlotte Coffee Company.

Duran leaned all the way into a premium build out and design concept after moving into the neighborhood, understanding the vibe and seeing what people wanted out of the space. The end result will be polished and mature but “not quite Dean & Deluca,” as he put it.

Outside, they’re adding a covered patio with a new fireplace and an eye-catching statement door at the entrance.

Around back will be a second sister concept cocktail bar called The Queen & Glass. That project is not currently underway and Duran expects it to lag anywhere from 30 to 60 days behind the opening of People’s Market.

Duran is expecting furniture and equipment deliveries in the next couple of weeks. We’ll be following up with more on the food and drinks once they’re able to set up.
