Put down the Pumpkin Spice Latte. Here’s a list of 6 Catawba beers you need to try this fall.
I met up with a few Catawba Brewing employees and taste-tasted some beers that pair perfectly with football tailgating to leaf peeping. Here’s a list of our favorites.
CLT — India Pale Ale, 7.2% ABV
Modern, double dry-hopped, in-your-face explosion of tropical fruit and pine.
Outstanding IPA and currently in my refrigerator. But don’t just take my word for it, this CLT India Pale Ale recently won a Gold Medal at London’s World Beer Awards.
Even better than the can design is the fact they have this printed on the back: “Despite George Washington calling it a “trifling place,” Charlotte evolved from a simple dirt crossroads into a leader of the new South… And at 7.2% ABV, like today’s Queen City, don’t trifle with it!”

When I have buddies over and bring this out, they’re pumped. It’s an excellent backyard house beer.
White Zombie – (White Ale, 5.1% ABV)
Zombie is made according to the Belgian Witbier tradition of using unmalted wheat to create the light body and white sheen. Additions of coriander and orange peel give Zombie a fruity and spicy character, while the hops are subtle and lightly detected.
The #1 selling Catawba beer. A classic.
Brown Bear – (Brown Ale, 5.2% ABV)
This English-inspired brown ale is dark and flavorful, yet not too robust or filling. Smooth caramel and chocolate notes dominate your first taste.
Hopness Monster – (India Pale Ale, 6.5%)
Brewed with an abundance of fresh Citra and Cascade, this IPA boasts a big biting hop profile layered with ripe tropical fruit, juicy citrus, and pine.
Mother Trucker – (Pale Ale, 5.0% ABV)
A medium-body American pale ale with a subtle complexity and balance from the crystal malts and a smooth finish. Late boil additions of Cascade hops provide citrus aroma and flavor.
Dunkin’ Punkin Brown Ale
This is the first-ever and only beer in the country to include Dunkin’ Donuts as an ingredient. Unlike Catawba’s other beers, this beer can only be found in their taproom and $1 per pint will go towards Second Harvest Metrolina.
“We’re excited to partner with a company like Dunkin’ Donuts that is best in class at what they do,” said Billy Pyatt, Catawba Brewing co-owner and CEO. “We love that it’s for such a good cause. Giving back to our local communities is a core mission of our brewery.”
It’s on tap today (National Coffee Day) until the barrel is dry!
